‘Fun of the Fair’ – Kingsbury Primary School’s ‘Highly Commended’ entry for 2011 International Festival of Quilts
This ‘community quilt’ was created by the children of Kingsbury Primary School (plus some helpful local residents) to mark the link with their partner school in China. An article telling the story of the quilt’s construction will be published in Patchwork & Quilting magazine later in 2011.
Year 6 Leaver’s Legacy Quilt, Marston Green Junior School, July 2011
This rather partiotically coloured printed quilted panel was created by a group of Year 3 and 4 Gifted and Talented pupils at Marston Green Junior School to celebrate the Royal Wedding of 29th April 2011.
This ‘city-scapes’ quilt won second prize in the NEC Festival of Quilts Primary Schools section 2010 – and won Kingsbury Primary School another sewing machine!
This wallhanging, inspired by the amazing Baptistry Window at Coventry Cathedral, was commissioned by the head teacher of Wootten Wawen CE Primary School to hang in her office. An article logging its production was published in British Patchwork & Quilting Magazine in November 2010.
This quilt was created by 90 of Crazy Mary’s Year 5 & 6 pupils in the summer of 2009. This was also exhibited at the NEC Festival of Quilts (2009), where it won first prize in the primary school category. The 3 classes researched Asian textiles, then designed and created lino prints, quilting and embellishing them with beads and sequins.
This quilt was created by Crazy Mary and 90 Year 5 & 6 pupils at Kingsbury Primary School in July 2008. It was exhibited at the International Festival of Quilts at the NEC in August 2009. The 3 classes designed the 4 panels: Earth, Wind, Fire, Water. Each child pieced a crazy patchwork patch to make up a 25x25cm block for one of the panels, embellishing it with stitching, beads, buttons and sequins.
This wallhanging and ‘Joseph’s Coat’ were created with pupils at St. Nicolas Primary Scoool, Nuneaton while I was teaching there, before 2007; the former as part of Craft Club and the latter as part of an Expressive Arts project.
These are just some of my other creations ! Visit my Facebook page to see more – there’s a link on my home page!
Hi Mary,
absolutely stunning work, congrats on your win and well deserved.
Lisa 🙂
Thanks Lisa – I’ve just this minute finished stitching together this year’s Festival of Quilts entry – it’s spread out on my living room floor as I type this! No idea whether we have any chance of winning again , but the kids had fun making it anyway!
Fabulous, and I enjoyed looking at the Widney one every day during my time there. Looking forward to a Budbrooke quilt being added soon!
